Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE) Group: for Parents

The treatment focuses on changes that parents can make to their own behavior thus reducing their child’s anxiety; they do not need to “make” their child change.

The two main changes that parents learn to make in SPACE treatment are to respond more supportively to their anxious child and to reduce the accommodations they have been making to the child symptoms.  This treatment is AS EFFECTIVE as CBT for kids but the kids don’t need to participate!

If you are parent whose child is needing a lot of help from you in order to cope with their anxious emotions, this group could help you. Research has shown that kids can have a reduction in anxious symptoms when parents follow this SPACE model.

Class will be starting in 2025 and will 60m/week for 5 weeks, over Zoom. Session dates/times is TBD based on participant availability.

$275/family

Failure to Launch: Therapeutic Group for Parents of Adult Children

Does your adult child struggles to grocery shop, eat out at restaurants, and maintain a job? Do they neglect activities of daily living like showering, dressing themself, completing chores, doing laundry, and making meals?  If so, SPACE FTL may be right for you.  SPACE Therapy treats adult childhood avoidance by helping the parents control what they can–their own actions to help spark a change.

The gold standard for failure to launch syndrome is an approach called Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE), a program designed for children that was modified to help young adults. Through this group, I will educate you on how to respond to your young adult’s anxiety, what to say and not say, how to handle power struggles and problematic behavior, how to set up expectations, and how to help motivate them.

Parenting an adult-child who is not “launching” can be extremely isolating and shame-inducing.  You are not alone.  In this group you will meet other parents who are struggling and receive support, guidance, and treatment on how to help them launch and thrive.

Group is over Zoom and will meet weekly for 8 sessions.

Start date TBD (Winter 2025).

Cost: $495/family; every family is also required to participate in a 75m 1:1 intake session with Emily, billed at her current intake rates.
